Why I Refuse to Connect Facebook to Dating Apps

I deleted my Facebook account in 2024 and never looked back. The problem? Every other dating app seemed to require Facebook login or used it for verification. For months, I felt locked out of the online dating world simply because I did not want Zuckerberg knowing my dating preferences alongside my cousin’s wedding photos.

So I made it my mission to find every adult dating app that lets you sign up with just an email address. No social media linking, no contact uploads, no “find friends who also use this app” features. Just pure email registration with good privacy defaults. I tested 14 apps over two months to find the ones worth using.

The Apps That Passed My Test

Only 5 out of 14 apps let me create a full profile without connecting any social media. Of those 5, 2 had terrible user interfaces that looked like they had not been updated since 2018. One had almost no active users in my area. That left 2 genuinely good options for people who value privacy over convenience.

Both platforms use email-only registration with optional phone verification. Both let you use a username instead of your real name. And critically, neither one tries to trick you into syncing contacts or uploading your address book during onboarding. Those dark patterns are everywhere in mainstream apps, and finding platforms that avoid them completely was refreshing.

The Privacy Bonus

Here is what I did not expect: the apps without Facebook integration actually had better conversation quality. When people are not performing for a social graph, they tend to be more honest about what they actually want. My response rate on these platforms was higher than anything I experienced on Tinder or Bumble, and the conversations felt more authentic.
